The verb should be singular if the subject is a singular noun, an uncountable noun, a book/film title, a verb-ing form, a pronoun like everyone, and a phrase of measurement like two hours; the verb should be plural if the

7、subject is a plural noun and a phrase of two or more words linked by and, referring to two or more objects or people. When not only . but also . is used as the subject of a sentence, or there be is followed by two or more nouns as the subject of a sentence, the verb agrees with the noun closest to i
