Learning objectivesBy the end of the lesson, students will be able to:1. understand the usage of some commonly used adjectives, verbs and phrases: awkward, original, generous, suffer, recover, respond, ignore, judge, apologize, ma

    2、ke it, in any case;2. expand their vocabulary by learning parts of speech, synonyms, suffixes, collocations and by reading some pieces of news;3. make sentences using contrastive linking words;4. use the above words and expressions in new situations.II. IV. Teaching proceduresStep 1 Review of the text1. T leads Ss to review the text learned in the previous less

    4、on and presents some adjectives in a meaningful context: awkward, original, horrible, frank, generous. How does Amy describe herself when she was in the primary school? She describes herself as an awkward student. What was Amy and her friends original plan?They planned to see a film at the cinema th

    5、at afternoon. How does Amy describe her friends lie?It is a horrible surprise. Do you think it necessary to have a frank talk with your friend when you misunderstand each other? What kind of qualities do we need to be a good friend?Being considerate and generous.2. T asks Ss to conclude the similari

    6、ties of these new words.3. T introduces the functions of these descriptive words and tells Ss in this class they will learn new words by categories or parts of speech, such as adjectives, verbs and phrases.【设计意图:通过问答和观察词汇的词性等方式引导学生回归课本并介绍本堂课的结构。】Step 2 Word study (adjectives)1. T encourages each stu

    7、dent to choose one adjective and look it up in the dictionary to find out its common collocations, adverb form, noun form and synonyms. 2. T asks Ss to share their understanding of the words they learn from dictionaries.3. T asks Ss to conclude the similarities of the formation of the adverbs and no

    8、uns.4. T concludes some rules of the word formation: most adverbs end with “-ly”; some nouns end with “-ness”; some adjectives have two kinds of noun forms.5. Using the contextual clues and pictures, T asks Ss to predict the different meanings of some commonly used adjectives (awkward, original, gen

T leads Ss to review some verbs learned in the previous lesson by completing Amys diary: recover, respond, judge, apologize, explode, ignore, suffer, misunderstand, contact, trick.2. T lets S

    10、s focus on the noun forms of these verbs.3. T provides Ss with some pieces of news and challenges them to translate the news and infer the correct meanings of some commonly used verbs: suffer, recover, respond. 4. T helps Ss to learn some collocations of “suffer” and “suffer from” and distinguish th

    11、e differences between them.5. T asks Ss to explain the different meanings of the verb “ignore” in the sentences.T provides Ss with a description of its adjective form “ignorant” and a saying of its noun form “ignorance”.T asks Ss to fill in the banks to consolidate the usage of them.6. T leads Ss to

    12、 learn the verb “apologize” by introducing the meaning of the suffix “-ize”.Ss works in groups to brainstorm more verbs with this suffix and share with classmates.T provides Ss with a piece of news and gives more collocations of its noun form “apology”.【设计意图:在新闻中学习重点动词的运用,了解后缀“-ize”的来源和用法,帮助学生关注词组的习

T asks Ss to explain the different meanings of the phrase “make it” in the sentences.3. T helps Ss

    14、 to distinguish the differences between the phrases “in any case”, “in case”, “in case of” and “in that case”.4. Ss fill in the blanks to consolidate the usage of these phrases with the help of pictures.【设计意图:让学生在定义,语境,图片和巩固练习的帮助下学习常用短语。】Step 5 Consolidation1. T gives a summary of vocabulary.2. Ss f

T introduces the definition of collocations and why it is important to learn them.T: Collocation refers to a group of two or more words that usually go together. “Co-” means together and “location” means place. Collocati

    16、ons are words that are located together. T: Understanding collocations can help you improve your fluency and make your English sound natural and idiomatic. There is often no reason for a collocation. People just put certain words together more often than they put other words together. 2. T leads Ss

    17、to focus on B2 and add more collections of the words “friend” and “friendship”.3. Ss work in groups to brainstorm more collocations of the verb “judge”.【设计意图:学生通过小组活动理解和掌握词组搭配的意义和方法,从而扩大词汇量。】Step 7 Sentence study (contrastive linking words)1. T introduces the function of contrastive linking words an

    18、d presents some examples.2. T asks Ss to find out examples of contrastive linking words in the text.3. Ss tries to improve a short paragraph using proper linking words.【设计意图:从所学文本中归纳对比连接词的作用,在练习中进一步巩固其用法。】V. HomeworkAccording to the pictures, Ss choose 5 to 10 words or phrases learnt in the class to make a short story.
