But dont expect it to show up in too many driveways. Its e
4、xpected to cost $279,000. And it wont help if youre stuck in traffic. The car needs a runway.Inventors have been trying to make flying cars since the 1930s, according to Robert Mann, an airline industry expert. But Mann thinks Terrafugia has come closer than anyone to making the flying car a reality
5、. The government has already permitted the company to use special materials to make it easier for the vehicle to fly. The Transition is now going through crash tests to make sure it meets federal safety standards.Mann said Terrafugia was helped by the Federal Aviation Administrations decision five y
6、ears ago to create a separate set of standards for light sport aircraft, which are lower than those for pilots of larger planes. Terrafugia says an owner would need to pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time to be able to fly the Transition, a requirement pilots would find relatively easy t

15、 beyond one weve known about for a long time between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.Another 14 years passed, dozens more objects beyond Neptune like Pluto had been discovered, so the International Astronomical Union elected to degrade the planet. It now shares its dwarf planet designation with three
16、 of the 1,200 bodies that have been located beyond Neptune today, collectively known as “Kuiper Belt Objects”The Kuiper Belt is populated by icy bodies that are remnants of the solar systems formation. These are the building blocks of planets. We now also know the surface of Pluto contains ices comp
17、osed of methane, nitrogen, and other compounds familiar to us. It also seems to have a bright polar cap, like on Earth. Its atmosphere is very thin, but its composed largely of nitrogen, like our own.So, as we finally get within 7,800 miles of Pluto today, we scientists are hoping we can finally und
18、erstand how the chaos at the beginning of the solar system could have created objects so similar and yet so foreign as Earth and Pluto. Pluto is much more than something that is not a planet. Its a reminder that there are many worlds out there beyond our ownthat the sky isnt the limit at all. We don
