The Security Council now has less than a day to decide the future of the UN monitoring mission in the country.CRIs Shen Chengcheng has more.The unadopted resolution received 11 votes in favor, 2 against and 2

2、abstentions.The western-backed draft demanded an extension of the UN mission for a period of 45 days.It gave the Syrian government 10 days to pull out troops and heavy weapons from populated areas.The draft also threatened non-military sanctions if the Syrian government fails to follow the demand.Th

3、e Chinese Ambassador to the UN Li Baodong says the Western draft resolution was problematic with uneven content.During consultations on this draft the sponsoring countries failed to show any political will or cooperation. They adopted a rigid and arrogant approach to the reasonable core concerns of

4、the relevant countries and refused to make revisions.Russia say that some members of the Security Council attempt to use the platform to impose their own political schemes on sovereign states, which will not work.Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country is ready to send up to 30 military of

5、ficers to the UN monitoring mission in Syria.Russia has proposed an extension of the mission for another 90 days.China and Russias veto has prompted an outcry from western countries.The UK, US, and France have condemned the veto, saying the UN had failed the people of Syria.However, Syrian Ambassado

7、ons.On the ground in Syria, state media are denying reports that the rebels have taken control of several areas in the capital Damascus.They say the reports are aimed to lift up the morale of the armed opposition fighters.Syrian state media say army troops are continuing their mission to eliminate t

8、he armed groups out of districts of Damascus.The Syrian amy is asking residents to leave the troubled districts of Damascus within 48 hours.As this is all happening, Syrias state TV has shown a video of President Bashar Al-Assad standing with the new defence minister.The footage showed General Fahad
