But recently, a team of researchers discovered that genes could also be a cause of sleepless nights. The scientists, from Rockefeller Universi
2、ty in New York, US, found that delayed sleep phase disorder( DSPD, 睡眠时相延迟障碍), a condition that affects ones sleeping patterns, is passed down via a mutated(突变的) gene. DSPD sufferers wake up later and go to bed later than the average person. To come to their conclusion, the team studied a 46-year-old
3、 woman who is only usually able to fall asleep at 2 or 3 in the morning. It was discovered that the womans body produces the hormone that helps her sleep at night up to seven hours later than regular sleepers. The scientists found this was caused by a mutation in one of the womans genes, one that he
4、lps regulate the “body clock”. Some of the womans family members were also found to share the same mutationand the same sleeping problemsleading the scientists to believe that sleep troubles are passed down through the generations. However, having this mutation doesnt mean you automatically have sle
5、ep problems. The team also found two people who had the mutation but reported no problems with their sleep. But while this is an interesting discovery, it offers no help to those who cant fall asleep at nightalthough there are a few things you could try to help you sleep earlier. BBC journalist Mich
6、ael Mosley produced a TV documentary in May in which he talked about his battle with insomnia(失眠) and the techniques he used. “I avoid social media for at least an hour before bed, I do mindfulness exercises, and if I wake up in the middle of the night, I read a book for an hour or so, ” he wrote in

Play the DVD as many times as needed for your students to identify the new words. If the word is “anvil”, have
17、 them point and say the name of such object. Step 4Make a list of verbs. Have them recognize the verbs in the cartoon, just as like in Step 3. After watching, encourage the viewers to use the verbs in another context. For example, if the verb is “run”, the person can say things like: “I run to the h
18、ouse, ” “she runs to her job. ”Step 5Have your students design and tell their own story using the vocabulary and grammar explained in the lesson. Encourage them to perform the stories they just made. Think of as many activities as they can to perform, such as voice recording or graphic animation (动画
