15、to students in her school about the Fred Hollows Foundation.Listen again and fill in the blanks. Did you know that every _ seconds somebody in the world _ blind? Thats about _ million people. And what is worse is that about _ of them do not need to be blind at all. Do you know what cataracts are? It

16、s when the lens of _ becomes more and more _ until eventually you cant see anything. That sounds _ but the treatment is _. The cataracts can be removed and _ by a special perspex lens. This simple operation lasts about _ minutes and by the next day the patient can see again. So its not really a prob

17、lem in _ countries. However, in developing countries the _ are terrible. Because blind people can no _ work or look after themselves, they cannot earn the money to _ for the operation. So they have no chance of _ again. One of the people who wanted to help these poor people was an Australian eye _ c

18、alled Fred Hollows. He believed that the operation was _ expensive and that everybody had the right to see. So in _ he determined to find a way to reduce _. First, he trained doctors in Nepal, Vietnam and Eritrea, so that they could _ eye operations. Second, in _ he started the Fred Hollows Foundati

19、on and raised enough money to build _ laboratories to make cheap perspex lenses. One opened in Eritrea and one in Nepal in _, a year after his death in 1993. These laboratories meant that the lenses could be produced much more _. They are now sold to over _ countries. The Fred Hollows Foundation has

20、 worked to _ blindness in more than _ countries. It has trained over _ local eye doctors. In 2003 one of these doctors _ by the Foundation put in the one _ Fred Hollows perspex lens.
