But in fact I have never seen any monsters myself, have you ever seen one? However, are there any monsters in
4、the world after all? To tell you the truth, I dont know. Many people believe the creature was faked. Many cultures around the world have tales of giant creatures like dragon, Bigfoot. Scotland has the Loch Ness monster, the Himalayan mountains have the Abominable Snowman(喜马拉雅雪人), and Australia has t
5、he Yowie Man(野人). Across the Atlantic, Canada has its own version of the mystery, the Ogopogo. The Yeti, a hairy, oversized, man-like beast, is said to live in mountain ranges in Europe particularly the Caucasus range(高加索山脉). Russia has recorded more than 1,000 sightings of the Yeti and, according t
6、o Londons Daily Telegraph newspaper, several dozen scientists gathered in Moscow in 1997 to talk through reported evidence of the monster, also known as the Abominable Snowman.Norway Last year scientists recorded what the Oceanographic Institute of Bergen called “an unknown sound of a mammal.” This
7、year theyre back, trying to catch a mythical monster they have named “Selma.” Swedens Lake Storsjon is home to a creature known as Storsie. Thousands of people have reported seeing this animal as far back as 1635. Witnesses report the creature as being multi-humped with a thin snakelike body with fe
8、et and being around 20 feet long. The body is mostly gray but it has been reported to also have shades of red, yellow and black as well. The creature is usually reported traveling at high speeds across the lake. Water plays an important role in the Pacific Northwest and it is not surprising to find
9、that its coastal seas and wet forests continue to this day to hide unresolved mysteries, Sea Serpents of the Pacific Northwest. Are such stories true? Have people seen sea serpents or merely glimpsed real and elusive animals yet unknown to science? Or are their reports akin to the sensational offeri
10、ngs of tabloids? Logic suggests three possibilities: (1) Witnesses were lying; (2) They were honest but deluded;(3) They actually observed what they described. The veracity of witnesses is not readily(easily) testable. Undoubtedly some hoaxes have been reported. Nevertheless, the surprise and disbel
11、ief expressed by many people at what they have seen, plus the reluctance of several individuals to speak of their experience for fear of being ridiculed, suggest that they might be telling the truth. In some cases multiple witnesses have corroborated each others descriptions. Many skeptics acknowled
12、ge that the observers have encountered some strange animal. The interpretation of what witnesses saw is most often not accepted by scientists, who suspect some error of observation and are wary of jumping to conclusions on the basis of irreproachable evidence. The final possibility is, of course, th
13、at the animals observed are entirely new and unknown to science. Most oceanographers readily concede that the ocean may yet have secrets to reveal. New animals continue to be discovered, usually by accident. For example, the mega mouth shark, a fifteen-foot-long filter feeder, was found tangled in t
14、he anchor chain of a United States Navy ship near Hawaii in 1976. It had never been observed before, and only five other specimens have been seen since. The mystery is not likely to be solved in the near future. Sightings are rare and apparently random. The development and founding of a research pro
15、gram that embraces review of evidence, formulation of hypotheses, search strategy, and instrument design in what is, after all, a legitimate scientific question tends to be thwarted by the stigma of “frivolity” that mars the subject, as well as by the absence of any obvious practical application. 18、: This April 2004 me and my family went to Fintry Provincal Park by Okanogan lake. My dad and brother walked off into the forest and me and mom went to the beach. We sat there talking for a good thirty minutes. There wasnt a boat in sight and the water was calm. In fact we were joking about Ogopogo
19、when we heard it. It was an odd sort of splashing-paddling noise coming from about a hundred feet onto the lake. We looked up and we couldnt believe what we saw! We saw something dark sort of blackish-green swimming through the calm waters like a snake! We watched it for about fifteen to twenty minu
20、tes before a huge yacht came and scared it off. I dont know for sure but I think we saw Ogopogo! S2: This is what I saw and how it happened. Back in July 12-18 of 1994 we did a 50 mile hike with my uncles scout troop. He asked my brother in law and his two sons and me to come with him. We started on
21、 Monday from Petit Lake to Alice Lake and we stayed the night there. The hike and the hundreds of lakes were so beautiful to see. Friday we hiked to Redfish Lake and we got there early in the day so we did some fishing which wasnt good because we didnt catch a fish. So then we went swimming because
22、it was so hot. Red-Fish Lake was not the warmest water but it felt refreshing. It was very clean and clear you could see the bottom till you got out to the deep part. One of the scouts came to the end of the lake in his boat and took us water skiing. I was in the front of the boat looking in the lak
23、e when I saw the water looked like a very big fish had took off under water very fast leaving the water turning. It was about four times as big as our boat, so I was thinking, that was a very big fish. When we got back to land I jumped out to hold the boat so everyone else could get out to. Then I l
24、ooked out at the lake and I saw a large wave about the size that our boat would make. I first thought that it was from our boat but then I noticed a head sticking up in front of the wave. So I asked my brother in law what that was. He looked and said it looked like a deer or a log. At this time I no
25、ticed it was long about the length of our boat. As we both were watching this thing swimming across the lake. We were trying to decide what it was. The head looked like a horse head. Then it went under and as its head went under the back came up and followed the head. We sat there and watched to see
