、 1897, and two years later, it was one of the largest cities in the West, with a population of 30,000.Dawson did not have any of the natural conveniences of cities like London or Paris. People went there for gold. They travelled over snowcovered mountains and sailed hundreds of miles up icy rivers.

、The path to Dawson was covered with thirty feet of wet snow that could fall without warning. An avalanche (雪崩) once closed the path, killing 63 people. For many who made it to Dawson, however, the rewards were worth the difficult trip. Of the first 20,000 people who dug for gold, 4,000 got rich. Abo

Over 300 years its population grew gradually fr

、om 800 people to 8 million.” C选项“Its geographical position”正确。 根据第二段中的“Of the first 20,000 people who dug for gold, 4,000 got rich”可知,在最先的两万淘金者中,有4 000人变得富有了,换言之,即有五分之一的人(One out of five people)变得富有了,故答案为B。

根据第三段中的“But soon. and when they heard there were new gold discoveries in Alaska, they left Dawson City as quickly as they had come.”

A项属偷换概念,文中说的是“The city was crowded with disappointed people with no interest in settling down”(这个城市到处都是感到失望且无心定居下来的人们)。 D项属曲解文意,文章提到“Necessities like food and wood were very expensive”(诸如食品和木材这样的生活必需品非常昂贵),并非说他们缺少食品。

由第三段作者描述她蹦极时的感受“felt like my stomach and my heart were in my throat”和“I was t

由最后一段作者描述她与那位女士交谈后的感受“only this time there was sunny warmth inside me”可知,那位女士的话让她很感动。.

空前面是: “There was a king who loved art very much.”所以后面选artist(艺术家)。 此处allow sb. to do sth. 故选A项。

、em could see each other.” A. put up 悬挂,挂起;B. put back放回;C. put away收好;D. put on穿上。 故选 A项。 根据下文的“with the cloth”可知,此处选择B项。

故选A项。 故选A项。 故选A项。 show up“出现。” 由下文的“the world will be sad.”
