3、ople in other countries mark the summer and the start of the new year?We put these questions to fellow Twinkl colleagues who work in six different countries:Argentina,Chile,France,Germany,South Africa and the USA.We asked them how long their school holidays are,what happens during the last week of t

4、erm and what happens on the first day back.Among other things,youll find out how,in the southern hemisphere,the summer holidays are at the same time as Christmas.Whats more,youll learn about why children get Schultte in Germany and how the first day back at school is marked.With each article,theres

6、 day back.“The school year in Argentina is a little bit strange in comparison to most of the countries around the world.Classes start in February and they finish in December.We have a winter break by the end of July(two weeks).January and half of February are our summer holidays and they mark the be

7、ginning of a new school year.Schools usually have a celebration on the last day.In some cases,families are invited to schools to share this with their children”.“Summer holidays last six to eight weeks in general and the winter break lasts two weeks.Some schools may have a one-week spring break as w

14、r until the first week of March.In winter,there are two weeks of holidays,which are the second and third week of July.”“At the end of the school year in all schools,there is an award ceremony where children are honoured for various things,such as grades,good behaviour and punctuality.At this ceremon

15、y,they are given a diploma.Each class also presents an art show which is usually a group dance.Also at the end of the year,each year group has a day out,where they usually go to a recreational centre with their families,classmates and head teacher.On this outing,there is a shared lunch and in many p

16、laces,parents organise to give a gift to each child in the class.Santa Claus also sometimes arrives at the pool party to hand out presents to the little ones.Because the end of the year holidays coincides with the Christmas season,which is also in summer.“The school year runs from March to December.

17、The summer holidays are approximately 11 weeks,from the second week of December to the first week of March.During the year there are holidays in winter and that is the end of the first school semester.This occurs in the first week of July,so during the second and third week of July,all schools are o

21、 children,the end of the school year is often celebrated with a bring and share class party.”“The academic year in South Africa runs from January to December.We have two longer holidays around 3-4 weeks long and two shorter holidays that are about a weeklong over Easter and in September.The two long

26、ce being such a big country,its split up into three different“zones”A,B and C.The schools in these zones start their holidays at slightly different times,usually a week apart.Generally speaking,summer holidays start in early July for everyone and schools mark the day by having a themed party.This pa
