Much of this is rooted in very early childhood experiences, Bargh argues, when babies conceptual sense of the world around them is shaped by physical sensations, particularly warmth and coldness. Classic studies by Harry Harlow, published in 1958, showed monkeys prefe
15、rred to stay close to a cloth “mother” rather than one made of wire, even when the wire “mother” carried a food bottle. Harlows work and later studies have led psychologists to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal socia
16、l skills. Feelings of “warmth” and “coldness” in social judgments appear to be universal. Although no worldwide study has been done, Bargh says that describing people as “warm” or “cold” is common to many cultures, and studies have found those perceptions influence judgment in dozens of countries. 17、o test the relationship between physical and psychological warmth, Bargh conducted an experiment which involved 41 college students. A research assistant who was unaware of the studys hypotheses(假设), handed the students either a hot cup of coffee, or a cold drink, to hold while the researcher filled

With each book the characters are growing up, the plots are getting more complicated (and a little darker) and we learn more and more about the adult world, both Muggle and Magical. Kids reading these books can grow with them, and a
28、dults reading them have more to look for. By the time the series is finished, Harry will be eighteen. In the media they have been compared to C. S. Lewis and The Little Prince. Apparently for children, but with deeper meaning for adults. Maybe Im still just a big kid, but I didnt see any of this. I
29、just enjoyed them for what they are, the great reading that takes you back to that time in your life. They are wildly imaginative, wonderfully funny and well thought out. Rowling has created instant classics that deserve a valued place in childrens literature. And all the media promotion? We know th
