    1、Unit 3 life in the future Language points. 阅读理解AMembers of the International Space Station Expedition 44 crew are undertaking a first for humanity: tucking into leafy greens grown right there on the space station, in Zero-G. The orbiting laboratory has been hosting the stations“Veg-01”experiments in

    2、 growing vegetables in space since May 2014. These plants were grown and matured over a period of 33 days aboard the ISS, and sent back to Earth for food safety testing. The second batch of seeds, which had been on board the ISS for 15 months, were planted on July 8, 2015, and were again grown over

    3、a period of 33 days. It is this second batch that will be munched by the crew on August 10. NASA researchers are hoping to determine whether these fresh vegetables have an impact on the physical and psychological health of the astronauts. Having fresh food like these available in space could have a

    4、positive impact on peoples moods and could also provide some protection against radiation in space. This is important groundwork, not just for the future of the ISS, which would potentially require fewer supply missions if astronauts could grow their own food, but also for NASAs manned Journey to Ma

    5、rs program, scheduled to take place in the 2030s and which would see astronauts spend at least a year on a trip to the Red Planet. Earth wont be able to send resupply shuttles(再补给航天飞机)to the Mars crew, so they will need to be as self-sufficient as possible. And, if their mental health can be improve

    6、d, both by fresh vegetables and the presence of plants, which can boost mood levels, so much the better. “The farther and longer humans go away from Earth, the greater the need to be able to grow plants for food, atmosphere recycling and psychological benefits. I think that plant systems will become

    15、I learned not only about the mechanics and techniques of aviation, but also about myself and how I see the world. As I floated in that seemingly endless sea of air, I became aware of the variety and complexity of the humanity below. On the ribbons of roadways, each tiny car carried people with hopes

    16、 and dreams. I wondered if any of those people had ever wished to fly like an eagle. Then I realized that each must have his or her own dreams and ambitions. Thats what makes us unique. We try to respond to something special inside us. I also realized that I was especially fortunate to be making my

    17、own dream come true. Everywhere I go, I hear, “Do what makes you happy and you will be happy. ”It sounds like standard advice, but Ive really thought about it and taken it to heart. I couldnt care less about how much money I make or what benefits I receive. I know that I am already in hot pursuit(追逐
