8、nute (BPM)is known as heart rate(HR). Heart health depends upon various factors like age, gender, activity level, overall health, etc. The ideal rate for men, women, children, babies is different. While checking the overall fitness, or any health problem, doctors first check the resting heart rate (
9、RHR)of an individual and then refer to the recommended rate for the age and gender. The maximal number of times that ones heart can contract per minute (without any damage)is called maximum heart rate (Max HR). The resting heart rate (RHR)is calculated when the person is resting. The working heart r
10、ate (WHR)is calculated during exercise, or immediately after performing strong exercise. The average of heart rates measured at different times during a workout is called average HR. The recovery HR, which is measured two minutes after the exercise, can be used to evaluate your fitness level. For ex
11、ample, you exercise at 155 WHR, and when you stop exercising, your HR decreases to 95, then 95 is called your recovery HR. The RHR calculator helps calculate RHR. When you wake up in the morning, rest for l0 minutes and then measure the pulse rate for 10 seconds, and multiply it by 6, to get the RHR
12、. The unit of HR is Beats Per Minute (BPM). If you know the normal RHR for your age and gender, you can compare yours with it. The normal RHR for adults can be anywhere between 60 to 70 BPM. Lance Armstrong, the racing cyclist, regularly records an excellent HR of 30 to 35 BPM! The heart can pump th

18、cle of just one T-shirt. There are 5 major stages: material, production, shipping, use and disposal. The material stage involves farming, irrigating, fertilizing, harvesting and ginning. While cotton is a natural fiber (纤维)and not as harmful to the environment as manmade fibers, it still takes a tol
19、l in the material and production stages. Commercial cotton farming uses a large amount of water, and the use of pesticides(杀虫剂) is widespread across the globe, especially in cotton farming. Studies have shown that farmers spend around $4.1 billion on pesticides annually, of which 25% was spent on co
20、tton crops in the US. Once the cotton is grown and harvested, so begins the production stage: spinning, knitting, bleaching, dyeing, cutting, sewing, etc.these processes also use a great deal of water and energy. Commercial dyes and bleaches are harmful pollutants and can eventually pollute groundwa
21、ter. After the T-shirt is produced, it enters the transportation stage. This often involves overseas shipping. Take a look in your closet. Chances are that most of your cotton garments (衣服) are made in China or India. Garments can be shipped via plane, ship or truckall of which spill CO2 into the at
22、mosphere. Calculations show that CO2 emissions from light trucks alone amount to 1.l5 pounds per mile. Once the T-shirt reaches the retail market, it is purchased. This stage may seem like the least environmentally damaging part. But consider the number of times youve washed and dried your favorite
23、T-shirt. Washing machines are certainly becoming more efficient. However, the average American household does 400 loads of laundry per year, using about 40 gallons of water per load. Such excessive water use is combined with the large amount of energy used by dryers. The final stage of life is dispo
24、sal. This releases harmful emissions, or involves a landfill where cotton takes years to break down. Current US records show that an estimated 15% of clothes and shoes are recycled, which means that consumers send a shocking 85% of these materials to landfills. We all need new clothes every once in
25、a while, but lets all try to keep in mind what goes into the production of clothing. . . It has a real impact on the planet. There are a lot of things you can do to help reduce your impact. Reuse and recycle clothes. If theyre too worn out to wear, cut them up and use them as cleaning rags. Donate t

34、of her son. Jonathans Dream and many Boundless Playgrounds around the country have a glider swing that can be used by kids who use wheelchairs and their friends. The glider swing at Jonathans Dream was designed by Matthew Cavedon, who wasnt even 10 years old at the time. Matthew was motivated becaus
35、e he used a wheelchair himself and wanted to be able to have fun at playgrounds with other kids, regardless of their physical abilities or disabilities. The basic idea behind Boundless Playground is that play is both part of the joy of childhood and an important way for children to learn about the w
36、orld. Kids who are kept away from playgrounds are denied this enjoyment as well as the learning. Far from being a place of happy excitement, traditional playgrounds are often places of separation and loneliness for those who cant join in the fun. Contrary to some strict ideas about what a playground
37、 for children with special needs should be like, a Boundless Playground is every bit as colorful and challenging as a traditional playground. Thats why it is inviting and fun for all children.
