8、ignificanceSample answer:The Silk Road, which extended from East Asia to the Mediterranean, was a network of ancient trade routes. The 5,000-kilometre Changan-Tianshan Corridor is a key section of this network. The Silk Road passes through deserts, mountains, grasslands and valleys on its way westwa
9、rds. In the 2nd century BCE, in the Han Dynasty, the Changan-Tianshan Corridor began to develop. The network remained in use until the 16th century, after experiencing a gradual expansion between the 6th and 14th centuries. At first, silk was the main item exported by China on the Silk Road, and the
10、n exports gradually included china and tea. Horses, wool, cotton and grapes were imported along the network. The network also served as a bridge for cultural exchange. Astronomy and mathematics were introduced to China, and so was Buddhism. Important Chinese inventions reached the West through the n
11、etwork. Through these routes, Eastern and Western civilizations were connected. Today, such exchanges are continuing with the Belt and Road Initiative. 13、e, in Kenya, China helped build the countrys Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). This development is one of the most significant projects in Kenya since it became independent in 1963. The SGR facilitates local industries, as well as trade between Africa and China. Energy is another way the initiative has
14、impacted countries along its path. A hydropower station project in Pakistan was approved and operated by a Chinese company. After its completion, it will generate enough electric power to provide for the Pakistani peoples daily use and also assist in the nations economic development. The initiative
15、also promotes trade between the countries on its routes. For example, Kazakhstan, a landlocked country, struggles to grow vegetables because of its very cold weather. The Belt helps enhance cooperation between Kazakhstan and the north-western Chinese Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. They are thus a
16、ble to do more cross-border trade in vegetables than before.
