A new technology has the possibility to change modern society thoroughly. Theres no question that self-driving vehicles could be good. Th
4、e accident statistics would drop: about 94% of road accidents in the U. S. are caused by man. Older drivers and people with disabilities would travel a lot. Keeping safe speeds and being electric, self-driving cars would sharply reduce pollution levels and depend on alternative energy. Roads would b
5、e quieter, people safer. But we must also consider the effect of the new technology on those who now depend on driving for their living. The American Trucking Association lists about 3. 5 million professional truck drivers in the US. The companies developing self-driving vehicles should be partnerin

This involves improving the housing conditions, the chances for education and employment and so on. Something urban planners are looking at now is
17、the creation of “smart cities”. According to John Rossant, founder and chairman of the non-profit organisation New Cities Foundation, technology is the way forward. He thinks that its generally accepted that “cloud computing, ubiquitous internet, robust 5G networks etc, will change our cities. ” He
