    1、 In so many ways, cyberspace mirrors the real world. 15 Others buy and sell products. Still others look for friendship, or even love. Unlike the real world, however, your knowledge about a person is limited to words on a computer screen. Identity (身份) and appearance mean very little in cyberspace. 1

    2、6 So even the shyest person can become a chat-room star. Usually, this “faceless” communication doesnt create problems. Identity doesnt really matter when youre in a chat room discussing politics or hobbies and it makes the Internet a great place for exciting conversation. Where else can so many peo

    3、ple come together to cha about their interests? 17 Theyre looking for serious love relationships. Is cyberspace a good place to find love? That answer depends on whom you ask. Some of these relationships actually succeed. Others fail miserably. Supporter of online relationships claim that the Intern

    4、et allows couples to get to know each other. Personal appearance doesnt get in the way. But critics of online relationships argue that no one can truly know another person in cyberspace. Why? 18 Internet users can carefully make their words fit whatever image they want to give. In a sense, theyre no

    5、t really themselves. All of this may be fine if the relationship stays in cyberspace. 19 With so many unknowns, its easy to let ones imagination “fill in the blanks”. This leads to disappointment when couples meet in person. So, before looking for love in cyberspace, remember the advice of Internet

    6、pioneer Clifford Stoll: “Life in the real world is far richer than anything youll find on a computer screen.”A. When we talk with others on the line, we can express ourselves freely.B. But some Internet users want more than just someone to chat with.C. People ask for information, play games and shar

    7、e hobby tips. D. Generally speaking, online friends and love are worth seeking for.E. Because the Internet gives users a lot of control over how others view them.F. Rather, a persons thoughts or at least the thoughts they type are what really count.G. But not knowing a person is a big problem in a l

    8、ove relationship.15-19 CFBEG (二) Weight loss is a hard topic, Lots of people arent satisfied with their present weight, but most people arent sure how to change it. You may want to look like the models or actors in magazines or on TV, but those goals might not be healthy or realistic(现实的) for you. 1

    9、6 So what should you do about your weight control? 17 The best way to find out if you are at a healthy weight or if you need to lose or gain weight is to talk to a doctor or dietitian(营养学家). 18 If it turns out that you can benefit from weight loss then you can follow a few of the simple suggestions

    10、listed below to get started. 19 People who lose weight quickly by crash dieting or other extreme measures usually gain back all of the pounds they lost, because they havent permanently (永久地) changed their habits. Therefore, the best weight management ways are those that you can maintain for a lifeti

    11、me. Small changes are a lot easier to stick with (坚持做) than large ones. Try reducing the size of what you eat. 20 Once you have that done, start gradually introducing healthier foods and exercise into your life. Its a good idea to maintain a healthy weight because its just that: healthy.A. Try givin

    12、g up regular soda for a week.B. Try to pay attention as you eat and stop when youre full.C. Weight management is about long-term success.D. Besides, no magical diet will make you look like someone else.E. Being healthy is really about being at a weight that is right for you.F. Changing from whole to

Do you ever know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness? 19 The following are a few tips that I follow to create happine

    14、ss in my life. * make a plan for attaining goals that you believe will make you happy. Your moods will very likely increase if you are going after something you value. * Surround yourself with happy people. It is easy to think negatively when you are surrounded by people who think that way. 20 * Whe

    15、n something goes wrong, try to figure out a solution instead of being absorbed in self pity. Truly happy people dont allow setbacks(挫折) to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances(状况) back to their favor. * 21 These few minutes will give you the

    16、opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continuous happiness. * 22 Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance, you will be subconsciously(下意识地) putting yourself in a better mood. * Findi

    17、ng the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. Find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you happy. * Keeping healthy is another way to achieve happiness. 23 A. What makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy.B. On the contrary, if

    18、 you are around people who are happy, their emotional state will be infectious(传染的,有感染力的).C. Being overweight or not eating nutritious(营养的,滋养的) foods can have a negative effect on your mood.D. Its also important to take some time each day to do something nice for yourself.DGEBC (四)How do you improve your spelling? 19 Just as we learn spoken language by hearing lots of people spe

    20、aking, we learn written language, including spelling, by reading what a lot of people write. Spelling is not about how a word sound, its about how it looks on the page, which means you have to look at a lot of words on the page to learn the correct spelling about it. Make a list of your commonly mis

    21、spelled words. 20 When you get a chance, look it up and put the correct spelling next to it.21 If you look it up more than once, add it to your personal list. Write! Write! Write! 22 When you look it up how to spell a word, write it down several times in a row and do it again a day or two later. 23

    22、Write a blog, a journal, e-mails, a novel, anything that will keep you using words and pay special attention as you write to the words that come up wrong.A. There is no substitute(代替) for reading a lot.B. Put a mark next to every word you look up in the dictionary.C. Those of us who spell well have

    23、a hard time explaining it, too.D. Let others read your writings, and ask them to circle misspelled words.E. Youre trying to build up the motor memory of writing it correctly spelled.F. It is a wonder that the boy did not hate music. 20 When he was 17, he won high praise from Mozart, a great Austrian composer. A few years later Beethoven went to Vienna to

    27、 study under Haydn, another great Austrian composer. Soon he was writing a great deal of music himself. But after one illness, he suddenly found himself deaf. At that time he was only 31. What a blow it was to him! But this did not stop Beethoven. He went on composing. 21 During his life, he compose

    28、d about 300 pieces. The surprising thing is that he wrote some of his best, his most beautiful pieces after he became deaf. Many of them are known and loved all over the world.A. But he could hear nothing for he was deaf.B. However, his father didnt come to listen to him play the beautiful music.C.

    29、He learned so fast that he was able to go around and give concerts when he was only 11.D. Beethoven left home and went out to practice his own music.E. But it is even worse for a composer than for anyone else.F. So Beethoven had to practice hour after hour on different musical instruments. G. He wro

    33、tself on packaging!The most successful producers know the truth: 21 The founder of Pears soup, who for 25 years has used pretty little girls to promote their goods, came to the conclusion: “22 ” A. Its not enough to have a good product. B. Coloring, for example, varies according to what the producer

    36、stay under water for more than a few minutes must breathe air or a special mixture of gases. 19 He can carry a tank of air on his back and breathe through a nose and a mouthpiece. Water weighs 800 times as much as air. Tons of water pushes against a diver deep in the sea. 20 When a diver is under gr

    37、eat pressure, his blood takes in some of the gases he breathes. As he rises to surface, the water pressure becomes less. If the diver rises too quickly, the gases in his blood form bubbles(气泡). The diver is then suffering from the bends(潜水夫病). The bends can cause a diver to double up in pain. 21 A.
