Protection efforts began in 1997 to bring the spe
8、cies back, including the creation and restoration of wetlands across the country and the legal protection of breeding areas. More than 300 hectares一about the size of the City of Londonof new reedbed have been created since 2002 and another 350 hectares restored. The bittern remains on the RSPBs Red
9、List of threatened species, but experts say the new sites mean there will always be enough birds to improve any local populations that may struggle in the future.
