Their approach involves dissolving the gas with water and pumping the resulting mixture soda water, essentially down into certain kinds of rocks, where the CO2 reacts with the

    21、rock to form a mineral called calcite( 方 解 石 ). By turning the gas into stone, scientists can lock it away permanently. Volcanic rocks called basalts(玄武岩) are excellent for this process, because they are rich in calcium, magnesium and iron, which react with CO2.The project called CarbFix started in

    22、Iceland, 2012, when the scientists pumped about 250 tons of carbon dioxide, mixed with water, about 1,500 feet down into porous basalt. Early signs were encouraging: The scientists found that about 95 percent of the carbon dioxide was changed into calcite. And even more importantly, they wrote, the

    23、change happened relatively quickly in less than two years.“Its beyond all our expectations,” said Edda Aradottir, who manages the project. Rapid change of the CO2 means that a project would probably have to be monitored for a far shorter time than a more conventional storage site.There are still con

    87、M: Thats true. Text 10M: Exams! The very mention of it makes me feel ill! I try to make my review techniques practical but it never seems to work. The first thing I do is make a detailed timetable of which subjects Im going to study. I also plan how long Ill spend on each one and how much I should g

    88、et done. But unfortunately I never seem to stick to this! I normally end up finding out something more interesting to do, like watching TV. When it gets to the night before the exam, I usually end up staying up all night studying. One time I fell asleep on the bus on the way to the exam center and w

    89、as late for the exam! The thing that usually gets me about exams is timing. I always spend much time on the first question and have to rush through the rest. I really hate it when you come out of the exam room and everyone starts saying “What did you put for Number 2?” It just stresses me out, so I avoid everyone, go straight home and try not to think about it until the results come out!
