2、n slang!Scientists from the University of Warwick have been studying how orangutans speak to each other.Between 2005 and 2010,they studied 70 orangutans from different social groups in Borneo and Sumatra in Southeast Asia.They recorded the kiss-squeak alarm calls that the orangutans made to each oth

3、er.These differed in pitch and length in time.Some of the orangutan groups were big and very chatty.Other groups were smaller and communicated much less.In the larger,chattier groups,orangutans quickly picked up new calls and enjoyed the novelty of using them a lot.Individuals showed off how cool th

4、ey were by picking up these new noises or making up their own.However,just like slang words,some of the calls that became popular quickly were also dropped quickly.When the group of orangutans was smaller,the group was much less likely to use novelty sounds.But,when they did,the slang became part of

5、 their permanent language.The scientists think this means language between apes is shaped by the groups they live in.Up until now,it was thought that perhaps apes used language that was the same in all groups and that it stayed the same.The team also hopes this will give them more clues as to how hu
